Meals with Wheels

Designed with Midtown’s seniors and disabled in mind, the “Meals with Wheels” program helps to promote a healthy lifestyle while supporting independent living.  “Meals with Wheels” provides a hot nutritious home delivered lunch to 40 residents of Midtown on a daily basis Monday – Friday.  Prepared by our own chef, lunches are planned in accordance with the USDA nutritional guidelines while also taking into account special diet requirements.  To be eligible for the program, a person must be homebound, unable to independently prepare a meal, and lack the support of someone who is able to prepare a meal for them on a regular basis.  While an individual’s income is considered in the eligibility review process, the need weighs heavily in the determination of enrollment.

Many of the recipients are homebound and unable to cook, shop for, or plan nutritious meals, but are otherwise able to live independently.  In addition to the regular enrollment, special consideration is given to those who may just be in need on a part time basis, i.e. recovering from a surgery, change in status of food preparation, etc.

A sample lunch menu would include:

  • Salad (not available on a daily basis)
  • Meatloaf
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Green Beans
  • Fresh Fruit
  • Bread

If you know of anyone who lives in the Midtown community and might be in need of a nutritious meal or if you would just like further information on the program please contact Monica Cannon at 769-257-5757.
