Excel By 5 is an innovative early childhood community certification process focusing on a community’s young children. It emphasizes the important roles parents, early childhood educators and the community play in the lives of children during their most formative years – birth to age 5. The certification identifies standards in the following four areas:
- Early Childhood Education
- Health
- Parental Involvement
- Community Involvement
In 2008, Mid-Jackson fulfilled the requirements outlined by the state EXCEL by 5 office and was named the “first certified neighborhood” in the state of Mississippi.
