Unity Book Club of Midtown

Inspired by the residents’ interest in becoming more involved in the Jackson Public Schools’ summer reading requirements for their children, the “Unity Book Club” of Midtown was established and led by resident Monica Cannon.  Since the formation of the book club in 2007, the group has studied a number of readings to include not only those on the summer reading list but also authors focusing on leadership, motivation, self-awareness, etc.  The following list reflects the literature that has been covered thus far with the group:

  • The Help by Kathryn Stockett
  • Teacup Full of Roses by Sharon Bell Mathis
  • My Husband’s Sweethearts by Bridget Asher
  • The Shack by William P. Young
  • For Colored Girls (movie)
  • Be Good to Eddie Lee by Virginia Fleming
  • Say Yes by Tobias Wolff (short story)
